Auntie Faransa is an Egyptian social comedy film set in a working-class Cairo neighborhood, where two sisters — Batta and Wezza — live with their aunt Faransa, who makes her living as a professional mourner at funerals. Batta agrees to follow in her aunt's footsteps and help support the family, but she draws one firm, non-negotiable line: her younger sister Wezza must be kept entirely away from the mourning trade and allowed to continue her education.
