Al-Yazerli, is a 1974 Syrian movie, directed by Qais Al-Zubaidi, and starring Adnan Barakat, Mona Wassef, Nadia Arslan. with a runtime of 95 minutes.
Al-Yazerli is a Syrian drama film adapted from a novella by celebrated Syrian author Hanna Mina. The film abandons conventional narrative in favor of a poetic, fragmented structure that mirrors the fractured imagination of a young boy forced to leave school and find work on the docks under the direction of the yazerli — the foreman who assigns day laborers their tasks. Using minimal dialogue and a richly evocative soundscape, the film drifts between the boy's vivid inner world of fantasy and the unsparing physical hardship of poverty and manual labor. A series of brief vignettes introduce the colorful and often harsh characters he encounters in a single day, making the film as much a mood piece as a social document.
