Al-Murshid is an Egyptian social drama that begins when Mabrouk travels from his village to the city to repair his uncle's flour machine, only to have a chance encounter on the train change everything. He meets Nawara, a young woman fleeing an uncle who threatens to kill her in the name of family honor, and he helps her escape. Through Nawara he becomes entangled with Hashim, who is caught in his own difficult situation as an unwilling informant for detective officer Sharif, who is using him to spy on his ex-wife. The film weaves together themes of honor, loyalty, and manipulation in a tense and multilayered narrative.
