El-Mulk Lellah is an Egyptian drama that unfolds the dark consequences of greed, secrecy, and inheritance disputes. Widow Wafiya finds herself burdened with her late husband's bank debt and agrees to let her daughter Farha enter into a secret marriage with Adham in exchange for settling the debt. When Adham dies unexpectedly, his father Mahmoud and brother Saeed are shocked by the revelation of the marriage. As the lawyer awaits Farha's delivery to determine how the inheritance will be divided, the brothers conspire with a midwife to kill the newborn and secure the fortune for themselves. The film is a sober and unsettling portrait of how inheritance can strip away all moral restraint.
