A theatrical artist who lived his life in the Egyptian and Arab theater, acting and directing, until his theatrical production reached approximately 220 theatrical performances. His cinematic activity was limited to a very small number of cinematic films, after which he devoted himself to his theatrical activity. He studied at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in 1947, then traveled to France to study and returned to work in theater directing. His works include (A Tale of Two Cities, Caligula, After the King Dies, The Princess Waits, The Sultan’s Game, and Red Denshaw). He rose through the ranks until he became dean of the Institute of Dramatic Arts in 1967. He directed many plays, and his activity in cinema was limited to a small number of films. He started with Fakher Fakher in “The Two Orphans” in 1948, but became famous in “It’s Forbidden for You” with Ismail Yassin in 1945, and starring opposite Samia Gamal in “A Cigarette and a Cup” in 1955. His last work before retiring from cinema was “The Bridge of the Immortals” in 1960 with Shukri Sarhan. Since that year, Nabil directed all his efforts to theatrical directing, producing several landmarks from Western and Arab literature, such as: “Macbeth,” “Isis,” “People of the Cave.” He also played the lead role in the play “The Merchant of Venice,” which he presented for television. He died after a long history of artistic contributions in 1999.
