Anwar Ismail

Born in Sharkia Governorate, he holds a BA from the Higher Institute of Acting in 1959, and also a BA in Commerce from Ain Shams University in 1960. He worked in the school theater at the Ministry of Education, then moved to the National Theater. His most important roles on stage were the role of the minister in the play (The Barber of Baghdad) in 1964, the role of Awad in (The Boy Mehran) in 1965, the executioner in (Shahrazad) in 1966, in the play (My Country, My Country) in 1968, (The Leader) in 1973, (The Red Eagle) in 1975, (The Return of the Absent) in 1976, and (Sitt al-Malik) in 1978, and (Seven or a Hyena) in 1974 by Amin Al-Hunaidi’s band. He presented television series including: (The Dishonored, One Thousand and One Nights, The World and Me, Poets and Tramps, (There is no god but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God, The Holy Kaaba, God’s Limits, Judiciary in Islam, Love in the Age of Drought), in addition to the children’s series (The Prince’s Garden). He worked in cinema in several films, and his most famous role was in the movie (The Tiger and the Female) in 1987 with the star Adel Imam. He died under mysterious circumstances in the Sayyida Zeinab neighborhood in 1989.
