Ya Sultan Al-Madina (The Sultan of the Medina) is a Tunisian drama film set in the decaying labyrinth of an old medina, where society's outcasts share an abandoned dwelling governed by its own brutal rules. Al-Bab, a local criminal who runs the building's prostitution ring, returns from prison on his wedding day — the same day his bride Ramla has been kept locked away, her face unseen by any man but him. His brother Fraj, the neighborhood's warlock and mystic, has fallen in love with her without knowing who she is. When Al-Bab walks back through the door, old loyalties and new desires collide in a story of jealousy, fate, and life on the margins.
