Overview

Back to Alexandria (Wahashteeni) is an Egyptian drama film about homecoming, estrangement, and the unresolved bonds between mothers and daughters. After more than twenty years living in Switzerland, Sue is compelled to return to Egypt when her mother Fairouz is hospitalized. Sue had fled as a young woman from her mother's eccentric, aristocratic world — choosing distance as a form of self-protection. Now, face to face with age and illness, she can no longer avoid the woman she left behind. The film unfolds as an intimate emotional journey, using Sue's return not just as a physical homecoming but as an occasion to revisit decades of silence, misunderstanding, and the complicated love that never fully dissolved despite the years apart.
