Thala My Love is a Tunisian drama of rare emotional and political power, set against the uprising that ignited the Arab Spring. In early January 2011, Mohamed — a political prisoner — escapes captivity and returns to his hometown of Thala, which he finds ablaze with revolution. His sole mission is to find his fiancée Hourya. Aided by Belgacem, a former regime informant seeking personal redemption, Mohamed hides and searches — until a crushing truth emerges: Hourya, raped in prison and believing Mohamed had died under torture, has married another man, Adel. On the night of January 9th, Mohamed witnesses a massacre and is unwittingly filmed carrying a body — the video goes viral on Facebook. A story of love fractured by state violence, the film weaves personal trauma and collective resistance into a profoundly moving portrait of Tunisia on the edge of transformation.
