Journey to the Moon is an Egyptian science fiction comedy and one of the Arab world's earliest forays into the space adventure genre. Ismail, a driver for a newspaper company, sneaks aboard a German rocket to photograph it secretly — only to accidentally launch it into orbit, carrying along Dr. Sharvin, the German scientist who built it, and Ahmad Rushdi, an Egyptian meteorologist. The three unlikely astronauts eventually land on the moon, where they encounter Dr. Cosmo and discover the remnants of an advanced civilization nearly wiped out by nuclear war. When Rushdi falls for one of the moon's inhabitants, the group's plans to return home grow complicated. Stranded without enough fuel, they must venture to the treacherous far side of the moon in search of atomic petrol.
