Mimosas (Mimozalar) is a Moroccan drama film directed by Oliver Laxe, set against the sweeping, austere landscapes of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. A dying Sheikh undertakes a final journey through the remote mountain passes, accompanied by a caravan and escorted by two morally ambiguous rogues whose loyalties and motivations remain opaque. As the caravan presses through the harsh terrain, the proximity of death and the weight of the journey begin to shift the dynamics between the Sheikh and his escorts, raising questions of faith, redemption, and moral responsibility. Visually stunning and tonally mysterious, Mimosas is a meditative and spiritually resonant piece of North African cinema that uses the vastness of the Moroccan landscape as a metaphor for the human soul's search for meaning.
Mimosas is a 2016 drama film directed and co-written by Oliver Laxe, described by Laxe as 'a Religious Western'. The film is a co-production between Spain, Morocco, France and Qatar. It was screened in the Critics' Week section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Nespresso Grand Prize.
