Overview

Yomeddine is a deeply moving Egyptian road movie directed by A.B. Shawky, following Beshay, a Coptic man who has spent most of his life in a leprosy colony on the outskirts of Cairo. After the death of his wife, who shared his condition, Beshay ventures outside the colony walls for the first time, embarking on a cross-country journey to the southern governorate of Qena in search of his estranged family. Joined by his young Nubian companion Obama and a stubborn donkey, Beshay traverses the breadth of Egypt in a tender and visually striking film that earned international acclaim, including a screening in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
