Mama America, is a 1998 Egyptian play, directed by Mohamed Sobhi, and starring Mohamed Sobhi, Hanaa ElShorbagi, Shaaban Hussein. with a runtime of 227 minutes.
Mama America is a politically charged satirical play by Mohamed Sobhi and his theatrical troupe. The story follows the Manafia family, who lose their livelihood and security following the fall of the Ottoman Caliphate and the pressures of Israeli occupation. Enter Amira Kamel as "America" — a figure of dazzling promises who moves into the family home and gradually takes control of their lives. The protagonist Ayesh attempts to win her trust in order to reclaim his family's rights, but finds himself ensnared in a conspiracy whose full scope only becomes clear too late. A bold, allegorical work that blends popular theater with sharp political commentary on foreign domination.
