Overview

The Night Baghdad Fell is an Egyptian dramatic comedy film set in the shadow of the American invasion of Iraq. When Baghdad falls on live television, Shaker, a high school principal, becomes consumed by a paralyzing obsession: he projects himself onto every humiliated Iraqi he sees on screen and becomes convinced he must develop a deterrent weapon to protect himself if his own country is next. He reaches out to Tarek Abdel Samad, the most brilliant student he ever taught, and offers his daughter's hand in marriage as incentive to pursue the invention. But when word of their project reaches the American authorities, everything they have built collapses around them. A sharp political satire on Arab anxiety and powerlessness in the post-9/11 era.
