Overview

Le Vent du Sud, or Wind from the South, is an Algerian drama adapted from the novel by Abdelhamid Benahouga. The film follows Néfissa, a university student in Algiers who returns to her rural southern village for the summer only to find her father pressuring her into a marriage with the local mayor. Determined to continue her education, she decides to flee back to the city, but is found injured and lost in the mountains by Rabah, a young shepherd whose mother nurses her back to health. The bond that forms between them awakens a new consciousness in each: Néfissa finds greater resolve in her fight for independence, while Rabah comes to recognise his own exploitation under an unjust system. Together they navigate a decisive turning point that will free them from ignorance and oppression.
