The Price of Freedom is an Algerian historical drama set against the backdrop of the Algerian War of Independence. It follows two humble characters — a meddah, a traditional storyteller, and a guerrab, a water distributor — who come to recognize the dehumanizing reality of colonial rule and choose to join the National Liberation Army. Rising through the ranks to become political commissioners, their paths diverge tragically: one falls in battle, the other is executed by guillotine in the infamous Barberousse prison.
