Arezki, L'Indigène is an Algerian historical drama set in 1895 Kabylie. Young French journalist Albertine Auclair travels to the region for a family visit and is enchanted by its landscapes — until teacher Mademoiselle Fores opens her eyes to the grim reality facing the indigenous Algerian population under colonial rule. Albertine learns of Arezki El Bachir, a legendary resistance leader sentenced to death by colonial courts after two decades of rebellion. A Robin Hood figure who robbed wealthy settlers to aid the poor, Arezki captivates the idealistic journalist, who sets out to uncover the truth behind the myth.
