The Chair Carrier is a political allegorical film set in the slums of old Cairo, following Sayed, a defeated man who exists in a fog of government propaganda and grinding poverty. Captivated, Sayed wants nothing more than to sit on the throne — if only for five minutes, to feel what power feels like. This simple, haunting premise becomes a sharp study of internalized oppression in the developing world, examining how systems of power perpetuate themselves not just from above, but through the self-limiting beliefs they instill in those they crush.
