The Citadel, is a 1988 Algerian movie, directed by Mohamed Chouikh, and starring Nawal Zaatar, Ouardia Hamtouche, Fettouma Ousliha-Bouamari. with a runtime of 94 minutes.
The Citadel (El Kalaa) is an Algerian drama film set in a remote village south of Oran, where elderly Sidi — already married — schemes to take the beautiful Aïssa as a second wife. The problem: Aïssa is loved by Kaddour, Sidi's adopted son. Determined to assert patriarchal authority, the old man engineers a cunning trap to teach Kaddour never to desire a woman claimed by his elders. Through this tightly wound family conflict, the film exposes the deep-rooted social structures of the Algerian countryside, where desire, power, and tradition collide in a profoundly human drama.
