Douar de Femmes, is a 2005 Algerian movie, directed by Mohamed Chouikh, and starring Sofia Nouacer Kouninef, Khaled Benaissa, Bahia Rachedi. with a runtime of 102 minutes.
Douar de Femmes is an Algerian drama set during the darkest years of the country's civil conflict in the 1990s, when armed Islamist groups terrorised rural communities. In a remote village left largely defenceless after the men depart to work in distant factories, the women take up machine guns to protect their homes. Young Sabrina, orphaned by the violence, grows up among these formidable women and witnesses their transformation from civilians into guardians. The film is a stirring portrait of female resilience and collective power, showing how fear can become a catalyst for courage. As traditions are upended and women discover their own strength, Douar de Femmes offers a humanising glimpse at ordinary life — love, marriage, and childbirth — persisting even in extraordinary danger.
