Recovery is a Palestinian cinematic experience in which filmmaker Rashid Marshawi embarks on a deeply personal journey across the historical city of Jaffa, the city his father was forced to flee during the 1948 Nakba. Narrating in his own voice, Marshawi breathes life into the city's memory — its shoreline, its streets, and the spirit of its people — through magnificent archival photographs spanning 1930 to 1948. His nostalgia animates the static bodies captured in old images, blurring the boundary between past and present, absence and presence. A splendid and deeply moving work of documentary cinema about home, exile, and the persistence of memory.
