Ruines is a Lebanese drama set in Paris, following Assaad, a Lebanese expatriate who spends his days working quietly in a foreign exchange office. But beneath that mundane exterior lies a haunted past — Assaad was once a militia fighter, and in a striking allegorical turn, he has become a vampire. The film uses this supernatural metaphor to explore the socio-political drift experienced by Lebanese diaspora members still carrying the psychological and moral weight of the civil war. A provocative blend of realism and allegory, Ruines examines exile, identity, and the way violence transforms those who survive it, long after the fighting has ended.
