Empire M is an Egyptian drama series featuring the legendary Faten Hamama as Mona, a widowed mother raising six children on her own while holding down a demanding position at the Ministry of Education. As her children grow — ranging from primary school age through to university — their challenges multiply and the household dynamics grow increasingly fraught, particularly when most of them enter adolescence. Into this demanding life steps businessman Ahmed Rafaat, played by Ahmed Mazhar, whose gradual presence stirs long-dormant feelings in Mona. The series explores the impossible arithmetic of a mother's love: whether she can honour her duty to her children while daring to reach for happiness of her own.
Empire M is a 1972 Egyptian drama film directed by Hussein Kamal. The film was entered into the 8th Moscow International Film Festival in 1973. It was also selected as the Egyptian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 46th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. The film was remade in a Turkish as Benim Altı Sevgilim in 1977.
