The Queen and I is an Egyptian romantic film set against the ancient mystique of the Pyramids. Adel, a charming young tourist guide from the Giza area, falls for Soraya, a beautiful Lebanese woman visiting with a tourist group. Before she departs, he gifts her a Pharaonic scarab as a lucky charm — and luck, it seems, takes its role seriously: Soraya is crowned Miss Universe and becomes engaged to the wealthy Adnan. Yet the scarab's magic, or perhaps something deeper, keeps Soraya's thoughts returning to Adel. A dreamy romance that weaves together Pharaonic symbolism, Cairo's warmth, and the eternal gap between two worlds brought together by chance.
