Mohamed El Kahlawy

An Egyptian singer, actor and writer, born in Sharkia Governorate in 1912. He initially worked as a railway employee, and began his artistic career singing folk songs, before leaving his job to join the Okasha band, from which his singing career began. He then worked on radio from its inception in 1934, and his beginning in cinema was the following year by participating in the film (Antar Effendi) in 1935. Then he established the (Tribe Films) company for artistic production, which participated in He produced a number of works, including (Ibn Al-Falah) in 1948. He also participated in writing a number of films in which he starred, including (Ahkam Al-Arab) in 1947. Then, since the 1960s, he focused his attention on religious chanting and popular song. Among his famous songs are (For the Prophet’s sake), (O my heart, pray for the Prophet), (Stay with God), (Light of the Prophet), and (Let the sword roam). He passed away on October 5, 1982.
