Mahmoud Abo Al Abbas

The artist Mahmoud Abu Al-Abbas was born in one of the popular neighborhoods in the city of Basra in 1956, and he represented many artistic works in cinema, theater and television. After he completed his primary and secondary studies in Basra, his love for acting prompted him to move to the capital, Baghdad, and join the College of Fine Arts, Department of Theater, to hone his talent in academic studies, obtain a bachelor’s degree with a very good grade, and graduate first in his group in theatrical directing. After completing his postgraduate studies in 1982, he was appointed to the Department of Cinema and Theater to work with the National Acting Troupe. He also worked as a teacher of acting and directing at the College of Fine Arts at the University of Baghdad, in addition to his work in the Drama Department on Iraqi television. He wrote, acted and directed more than thirty theatrical works, and also presented many television works and series. He resided in the United Arab Emirates, where he continued to work in the theatrical field and served as editor-in-chief of the theatrical magazine (Kawalis). He participated in many Arab and international theater festivals and won awards as the best Iraqi actor. He wrote plays for children, including (The Inheritance of Cats) and (Noor and the Enchanted Well). Among his theatrical works is the play (Oil Spot), which was directed by Mohsen Al-Ali and participated in the Amman Theater Days Festival. It deals with the suffering of Iraqi expatriates in a satirical comedic style.
