Overview

Butterfly (Papillon) is a Moroccan social drama about a young man from a deeply conservative city whose passion for filmmaking drives him to enter a photography competition as his ticket to film school. His choice of subject matter, however, proves far too provocative for the locals, setting off a conflict between his creative ambitions and the rigid expectations of his community. A quiet but powerful story about the cost of artistic self-expression in the face of social pressure, and the courage it takes to pursue a dream in an environment that does not yet understand it.
