Overview

Lanterns of Memory is a Lebanese documentary centered on Wadad Halwani, a woman whose husband was kidnapped in 1982 during Lebanon's devastating civil war. Refusing to accept silence, Halwani brought together the families of other kidnap victims and founded the Committee for the Families of the Kidnapped and Missing. Decades after the war's end, these families continue their painful pursuit of truth and accountability, demanding justice for crimes that remain unacknowledged. The film is a powerful testament to collective memory, grief, and the refusal to forgive without truth — a moving record of women and families who refuse to let history bury their loved ones in silence.
