Kings of Sects is a sweeping Arabic historical drama set in one of the most turbulent chapters of Andalusian history. Following the collapse of the Umayyad Caliphate, Al-Andalus fractures into dozens of petty warring kingdoms — the Taifa states — each ruled by a king too proud to yield to his neighbors and too weak to repel his enemies. As these kingdoms exhaust themselves in rivalry, the northern Christian Kingdom of Castile steadily expands its borders southward. Meanwhile, in North Africa, the Almoravid dynasty rises as a formidable unified force, eventually marching into Andalusia to absorb the fragmented Taifa kingdoms before they fall entirely to Castile. A rich and politically layered drama about the price of disunity and the twilight of Islamic civilization in Iberia.
