Wedding Song, known in Arabic as Afrah Al-Qubba, is a 1984 Egyptian drama film set in the 1970s and adapted from a novel by Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz. A theater troupe comes together to rehearse a new play, only to discover with mounting unease that the script they are performing mirrors their own private lives — exposing their most closely guarded secrets to one another on stage. As the director insists that the show must go on, each actor is forced into a raw, unavoidable confrontation with their own hidden truths. A layered and psychologically rich film, it explores the relationship between performance and authenticity, art and confession.
