A Moroccan actor, Mohamed Moftah was born in 1949 in the Mohammadi neighborhood in Casablanca. He lived through the tragedy of his mother’s killing at the hands of the French occupation in the demonstrations of August 20, 1953. His artistic energies were discovered in 1960 in the Youth House in the Mohammadi neighborhood in Casablanca, and he participated in the play “Karkour, Our Master the Sheikh.” He learned performance techniques, lighting, clothing, and theatrical space. Then he joined the theater artist Tayeb Al-Siddiqi’s troupe, and presented many plays with him, the most famous of which were: “Momo Boukhrassa,” “City of Copper,” “Diwan Sidi Abdel Rahman Majzoub,” and “Maqamat Badi’ al-Zaman al-Hamdhani.” He then moved to the world of television and then cinema, where in 1973 he participated in the film “The Impossible Thing” by American director John Frankenheimer, but the Israeli producer did not refer to him in the advertisements for the show, because his name was “Muhammad.” He then participated in Italian, English, and French films, and in most Moroccan films, such as “Jarat Abu Musa” by director Mohamed Abdel Rahman Tazi, “Taif Nizar” by Kamal Kamal, and “The Weekend” by Daoud Ould El Sayed.
