Overview

Hands of God is an extraordinary documentary that chronicles the Iraqi national boxing team's improbable journey toward qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympics — all against the backdrop of thirteen years of war and monthly car bombings. The film follows three remarkable athletes: private Waheed, who must balance active military duty with his Olympic dream; young Jafaar, who trains and competes despite living in one of the world's most dangerous neighborhoods; and heavyweight Saadi, who returns from the mission to liberate Falluja to pursue his sporting ambitions. A rare and deeply moving portrait of determination, the film asks what it means to fight for your country on two very different kinds of battlefield.
