Gherbah, is a 1976 Syrian play, and starring Duraid Lahham, Nehad Qalei, Hosam Tahseeine Bek. with a runtime of 161 minutes.
Gherbah is an Arabic drama play set against the backdrop of the Arab world in the 1970s. Its story unfolds in a village bearing the name Ghorba — meaning estrangement — ruled by an authoritarian Bey who enslaves the villagers, strips them of their resources, and keeps them mired in backwardness and poverty. As the injustice deepens, so does the tension toward an inevitable confrontation between oppressive power and the dignity of ordinary people. The play uses its village as an allegory for the broader Arab experience of that era, weaving themes of freedom, exploitation, and collective awakening into a politically charged theatrical work.
