How Much I Love You is a 1985 Algerian documentary directed by Azzedine Meddour, constructed entirely from archival footage produced by French colonial authorities. Beginning with promotional reels glorifying agricultural investment in Algeria and culminating with revelations of secret nuclear tests conducted on Algerian soil in the 1950s, the film dismantles colonial myth-making through caustic montage. Meddour's approach is deceptively light in tone, deploying irony and dark humor to expose the stark inequalities between French colonizers and Algerian Muslims in the years before the war of independence. Directed by the father of Papicha filmmaker Mounia Meddour, the film won recognition at the American Film Festival in New York.
