Algeria in Flames, is a 1958 Algerian movie, directed by René Vautier, and starring Claude Cardinale. with a runtime of 22 minutes.
Algeria in Flames is a rare historical documentary filmed inside National Liberation Army camps in the Aurès-Nementchas region at the end of 1956 and through 1957, shot handheld by filmmaker René Vautier. Produced in French, German, and Arabic versions, the film was intended to demonstrate the existence of an organized armed resistance rooted in the Algerian people and to open dialogue toward peace. Its explosive impact forced the filmmaker into hiding for 25 months. The film's French premiere took place in the occupied Sorbonne in 1968, and its footage has since been referenced in numerous Algerian cinematic works. After independence, the filmmaker went on to establish Algeria's first audiovisual center.
