An Algerian Game is an intense Algerian short film set in 1995, in the suburbs of Algiers. At twelve years old, Samia and Nouara share the uncomplicated joy of a close childhood friendship — until violence intrudes abruptly into their lives and puts everything between them to the test. Directed by Amal Blidi, who brings a documentary filmmaker's precision to her debut narrative short, the film uses the lens of adolescence to approach Algeria's 'Black Decade' of political violence with sensitivity and restraint. Rather than depicting the trauma head-on, it captures the moment innocence fractures — a coming-of-age story shadowed by a nation in crisis.
