Overview

A Story in My Skin is an intimate Algerian documentary short that centers on political activist Kader Affak — known to audiences of Tariq Teguia's celebrated film Inland — as he simultaneously renovates the historic Le Sous-Marin literary café and runs a charity on its premises. Filmed in striking chiaroscuro light, Affak opens up to filmmaker Yanis Kheloufi about the final days of his mother, a deeply formative period that forged his unshakeable belief in the Algerian people and their capacity for resilience. A quietly powerful portrait of personal history as political conviction, set against the backdrop of Algeria's living cultural memory.
