Bahloul: The Wisest of the Madmen is a Syrian historical drama series set in the Karkh district of Baghdad. At its center is Abu Wahb, a wise and pious man revered for his ability to resolve the city's conflicts. When the caliph moves to appoint him Chief Judge, Abu Wahb fears the political pressures of the position will compromise his faith — and so he chooses to feign madness. He begins riding a reed through the streets, earning the nickname Bahloul from the townspeople. A richly layered period drama that uses the mask of folly to deliver wisdom, social commentary, and quiet heroism.
