Overview

Bahloul, the Wisest of the Madmen is a multi-part Syrian historical drama set in the Karkh district of Baghdad during the reign of Caliph Harun Al-Rashid. It chronicles the life of Abu Wahb ibn Omar, nicknamed Bahloul, a jurist and scholar known for his wisdom and piety. When the Caliph wishes to appoint him chief judge, Bahloul — fiercely loyal to Imam Musa Al-Kadhim — chooses to feign madness rather than compromise his faith and independence. He is seen riding a reed through the city streets like a horse, leaving people to wonder whether his madness is real or a shield for something far deeper. A spiritually rich historical epic.
