The Wedding of Zein is a Sudanese drama film based on the acclaimed novella by Tayeb Salih. To the villagers, Zein is little more than a lovable fool — a half-wit whose boisterous laughter and public declarations of love for village girls are met with amusement rather than anger. But the wandering Muslim holy man Haneen sees something the community has missed: a man of genuine piety and radiant inner spiritual grace. When the most beautiful and devout girl in the village chooses Zein as her husband, the entire community is left astonished. A lyrical and deeply humanistic film about the unseen dimensions of the human soul.
