El-Share'a El-Gedid is an Egyptian historical drama set in the first half of the twentieth century, tracing the story of Hajj Yunus al-Baqri and his family as they navigate poverty, injustice, and the burdens of colonial occupation. His son Ali struggles to carve out a dignified life against seemingly insurmountable odds, while Safiya endures life alongside Yunus's daughters and their cruel, self-serving husbands. The shadow of occupation looms over every scene, grinding down ordinary people who have no recourse against the powerful. A richly textured period drama that captures the resilience and suffering of Egyptian society during one of its most turbulent eras.
