The Fat Cats (Al-Qitat Al-Siman) is an Egyptian drama film that exposes the corrupt nexus between money and power. The wealthy contractor Al-Helbawy is determined to crush his son Nabil's relationship with his university classmate Ahlam, whose social standing he considers beneath the family. He engineers a scheme to have her imprisoned, while simultaneously cementing a lucrative alliance with Hassan Qadri, the head of general intelligence, who facilitates his smuggling operations. Nabil is then married off to Hassan Qadri's daughter Sawsan, sealing the corrupt bargain. The film is a sharp indictment of Egypt's powerful elite and the lengths they will go to in order to maintain their grip on wealth and influence.
