That Which Remains is an Iranian film adapted from Ghassan Kanafani's landmark Palestinian novella Returning to Haifa. Set in 1967, it follows a Palestinian couple who return to a Haifa torn apart by war to search for their son Farhan, whom they were forced to leave behind as a baby when fleeing Zionist violence in 1948. They find their home occupied by a Polish Jewish family — and discover that Farhan never left. Directed by Seifollah Daad with meticulous period authenticity and deeply felt performances, the film is one of the few Iranian productions to engage directly with the Palestinian cause from a rigorous historical perspective, and stands as a powerful and rare work of political cinema.
The Survivor is a 1996 Iranian epic historical drama film about Arab–Israeli conflict starring Salma Al-Masri, Alaa El Din Koksh, Ghassan Massoud, and Jamal Suleiman. The script is based on Returning to Haifa, a novel by the Palestinian author Ghassan Kanafani in 1969. The novel is about Israeli Declaration of Independence and its government in Haifa in 1948.
