Abu Zeid el Hilali is a sweeping historical drama rooted in one of the Arab world's most celebrated oral epics. The story begins when Abu Zayd al-Hilali's wife and infant son flee, only for the son to grow into a formidable warrior far from his father's knowledge. Fate brings father and son to opposite sides of a brutal tribal battle, neither recognizing the other on the battlefield. After the Banu Hilalis emerge victorious over the Banu Zahlanis and Abu Zayd returns home as a celebrated hero, an even greater war erupts against the Zirids — a dynasty that had abandoned Shiism.
