
A theatrical actor, film director, and singer, he was one of the most important representatives of the Al-Qabbani Band in its recent era. He grew up in a religious environment, and sang many songs of a religious nature. He formed a theatrical troupe and worked with it at the Minerva Theater in 1917, then formed another troupe in 1927. He also formed a third band in collaboration with Abdul Rahman Rushdi in 1920 and a fourth band in collaboration with Sheikh Sayed Darwish in 1921. He worked as a main actor and artistic director for many theater groups, such as: “Salama Hegazy Troupe,” “George Abyad,” “Okasha,” “Amin Sedqi,” and “The Egyptian National Troupe.” He played many roles in a group of plays, including: “The Thief of Baghdad,” “Hassan Bey,” “Ali Baba,” and “The Wig.” He directed many works for the theater, such as: “The Secret of the Suicide” and “Emotions.” He had cinematic directing experiences for several films, including: “Daughter of the Nile” and “Aziza Amir.”
