Karem Mahmoud Abu Raya was born in Damanhour. He began his life as a chanter of the Holy Qur’an. He sang in concerts when he was young. He was discovered by Togo Mizrahi as an actor after he began his life as a singer with a sweet voice. He graduated from the Institute of Arab Music in 1944. He focused his activity on singing in halls and in the cinema in the first half of the fifties of the twentieth century. He excelled in his songs: “On the Shore of Bahr al-Hawa” and “Samra Ya Samra.” He made many artistic trips to Syria and Lebanon, singing in Operettas: “The Good Ten,” “One Night from a Thousand Nights,” “The Gift of a Lifetime,” “Auf Al-Aseel,” “Qatar Al-Nada.” He gave birth to many children.
