Yaouled is an Algerian historical drama set against the turbulent backdrop of July 1962, the final days of French colonial rule in Algeria. The film follows a group of "yaouleds" — street-smart Arab teenagers from the working-class Bab-el-Oued neighborhood — who survive by shining shoes and selling goods on the streets. When violence erupts between French settlers and Algerians during the country's transition to independence, these young boys are caught in the deadly crossfire. A visceral portrait of youth caught between two worlds at a defining moment in Algerian history.
