The Flowers of Kirkuk is a powerful Kurdish-language political romance set against the brutal backdrop of dictatorship in Iraqi Kurdistan. Najla, a young doctor who has just completed her medical studies in Rome, returns home to Kirkuk only to be drawn into a dangerous web of love and oppression. Sherko, the resistance fighter she loves, shelters wounded partisans, while police officer Mokhtar — also in love with Najla — serves the regime. When both Najla and Sherko are arrested and tortured, the film unfolds into a harrowing story of sacrifice, survival, and moral courage under totalitarianism.
