Visa is a comedy-drama short film that lampoons the bureaucratic machinery of European immigration policy. When Schengen countries adopt a new law requiring would-be immigrants to pass a dictation test in order to qualify for an entry visa, forty-something Rachid — who has long dreamed of crossing from Africa into Europe for a better life — must sit the examination. The film uses this absurdist premise to satirize the arbitrary and dehumanizing hurdles that migration policies impose on desperate people, asking whether a man's worth and future can truly be determined by his ability to write a dictation. A sharp, compact piece of social commentary with a darkly comic edge.
