Traversées is a tense drama set on the final night of 1980, aboard a car ferry crossing between England and continental Europe. Two anonymous passengers find themselves at the mercy of British and Belgian authorities who subject them to harassment and effectively hold them captive on board the vessel connecting the two frontiers. The film uses the claustrophobic setting of the cross-Channel ferry to build a quiet but unsettling examination of identity, freedom of movement, and the arbitrary power of border authorities over ordinary people.
